At J and T Tubes, preserving the heritage of classic machines is our passion. Recently, we were proud to restore the iconic Sunbeam 1000hp, focusing on its distinctive air tubes. These components, originally crafted with intricate patterns, were damaged during removal between 1927 and 2020. As Nigel at J and T Tubes explained, “It’s the air tubes on top – they originally had unique patterns, but they were damaged when removed. I had to recreate each individual tube to ensure a proper fit. This is one of two engines that are slated to be taken back to Daytona Beach 2027.”
Recreating the air tubes demanded a blend of modern fabrication techniques and traditional craftsmanship. Every tube was carefully measured, reshaped and fitted, ensuring that the restoration was true to the original design while meeting today’s performance standards.
